Zzzoddian Lore: Stuffies

Soft, Squishy, and Emotionally Overqualified

Stuffies like to pretend they’re rugged nomads - fearsome wanderers of the frozen north, hardened by blizzards and survival. And for about five seconds, you might believe them. Then one of them trips, rolls into a fluffy ball, and asks if YOU would like a hug.

In reality, Stuffies are giant, squishy bundles of plush goodness. Bears, bunnies, dragons, and dinosaurs. If it’s soft, stuffed, and shaped like something adorable, it’s a Stuffie. Legend even claims they’re all born wearing “Free Huggs” T‑shirts, as if the universe wanted to make their purpose unmistakably clear, which honestly feels on‑brand.

Where They Come From

Stuffies hail from the Endless, a vast frozen tundra in Zzzodd’s far north. It’s cold enough to freeze a Plastimal solid and make an Action Figure rethink their life choices. But Stuffies? They thrive there. Or at least they don’t turn into popsicles immediately.

Their ancestors wandered the Endless, forever searching for warmth, food, and someone to cuddle. That tradition lives on today, as many Stuffies still travel in sprawling tent cities that drift across the countryside like migrating clouds. Others form smaller tribes, rolling from town to town in extravagant caravans, trading goods and gossip. A few settle in major cities, but even those Stuffies insist they’re “just passing through,” even if they’ve lived there for twenty years. Stuffies are physically incapable of admitting they’ve moved somewhere permanently.

S’mores Stories

Stuffies hold fast to an oral history tradition, passing stories from generation to generation. Their memories are astonishing, with near perfect recall after a single telling. A Stuffie who hears a story once can retell it decades later with flawless detail, pitch, and emotion. Because of this gift, they are widely respected as historians, second only to the Scholastics (who cheat by having libraries).

Every Stuffie learns their origin story by age five. In their telling, Santa is real, and all Toys - including themselves - were created in his Workshop. But that is where their version diverges sharply from the cheerful beliefs of Santa’s Workshop followers. Stuffie lore paints the Workshop as a darker, sinister place, filled with suffering and secrets. Their tale culminates with their exile into the frozen wasteland. This event, whether myth or memory, left Stuffies with a deep distrust of organized religion. Neither side’s claims can be proven though. Santa’s Workshop has never been found; the Endless is so cold in places that even a Stuffie can freeze solid, hampering exploration efforts for millennia.

Ironically, many Stuffies become Priests or Clerics, though they approach these roles from a purely healing perspective. They embrace the nurturing, restorative aspects of the vocation while ignoring the religious trappings entirely. Their love of stories also makes them natural Bards, and nearly every legendary Stuffie Chieftain has been one.

F is for Friends Forever. Whether you like it or not.

Stuffies adore everyone. Their social philosophy is simple: the world needs more hugs, warm cuddly hugs. They’ve been known to stand on street corners offering free squish therapy to anyone passing by - friend, stranger, or confused Put‑Puts who definitely did not ask for it. The only thing they ask in return is that you keep your religion to yourself. If you don’t, they will hug you anyway.

One of the most remarkable bonds in Zzzodd is the friendship between a Stuffie and an Action Figure. On paper, they couldn’t be more different: one is soft, gentle, and cuddly; the other is loud, fearless, and crazy. Yet their shared love of all things Toy creates a connection so strong that it often lasts a lifetime. The only relationship that rivals it is the bond between Plastimal packmates.

Becoming friends with a Stuffie is easy, they’ll probably adopt you before you finish introducing yourself. Their loyalty is unmatched, their hugs are legendary, and their ability to remember every embarrassing story you’ve ever told them is… (cough) impressive.
